Michael Loves Maui Jim

Money Mike is back in the staff favorites game looking better then ever in these Maui Jim shades.

Known the world over for their sweet sweet polarized lenses and performance sport design, Michael's pick of sunglasses had a lot in common with the man himself. Over the last year Mike has made Spectacle a sweet sweet place to come to work and nobody can doubt this guy is designed for sport performance, he has one speed, one gear.....GO!!!!

Maui Jim's PEAHI, a large plastic sunglass, features a bold wrap a round shape with Maui Jim's famous Polarized, Gradient Mirror lenses. Designed for comfort and providing ideal coverage to protect you from harmful UV and UVB rays, the Peahi brings to mind the look of a Schwartzenegger or a Vin Diesel. Available in Black, a rich Tortoise Brown and a rubberized Matte Black, the Peahi is eagerly awaiting the return of sunny summer days at the cottage and cruising the highway with the top down.

Tina Loves Cutler and Gross

Tina, our shortest but most fierce frame stylist adds her thoughts to our ongoing Staff Picks blog series. Tina is also the face behind the faces of these posts and window displays as she is the talented photographer that snapped all these shots.

In fact she is so talented she managed to take this photo of herself....upside down and under water while being chased by sharks.

I chose the CUTLER AND GROSS 1029 in Nude Net as my favourite optic frame because of its uniqueness in style and design. I love love love the detail of the net stocking/fish net layer in the acetate. The frame shape is classic and is easy to suit almost all face shapes. Since the frame itself is nude, it’s an easy frame that’ll go well with any outfit and the black net stocking/fish net layer plays as a twist on a (classic) black coloured frame. According to CUTLER AND GROSS, their frames “celebrates the individual rather than the label” and it’s evident that they did just that to this frame because it celebrates a woman’s beauty and purity with the nude colour, along with a touch of sexy with the texture of a net stocking/fish net.

Maison Martin Margiela Now At Spectacle

Super secretive fashion house Maison Martin Margiela has released a collaborative sunglasses collection with Spectacle in house favs Cutler and Gross and oh wow is this stuff hot.

Highlights of this collection are the "Anatomic" Model, meant to anatomical and perfectly wrap around your face and the "Wrong Size" which features the wrong sized lenses on purpose, one of the most unique features we've seen on shades in a long long time.

Uber Chic Spectacle Stylist and all around winner Eric was nice enough to take some time off from making the world a more beautiful place and model both of these frames for you our blogging community.

The creations of MMM are available at Spec West Queen West and the other two shops by viewing. Viewing of Eric is strictly limited to the shop he is working at on any particular day, sorry.

Mason Loves IC! Berlin

Mason, Spectacle Yonge St's Head Optician and longest serving employee finally throws his hat in the ring of our on going "Staff Favorites" blog series.

Mason has been in the optics industry for many a moon and with Spectacle for a good while now. Besides being one of two goalies on staff Mason is a solid back stop for our north end location, making sure nobodies vision care needs escape him.

Sleek modern yet timeless profile. Clean lines. Exacting German technology.
The 1987 Porsche 928 S4? Not at all. I love my Ic Berlin Sean eye shields!

Whether I am jetting down the road to a "rent-a-goalie" gig or fighting 401 traffic these shades are keeping the bright rays and reflections to a minimum with premium polarized filters. There is no peripheral vision compromise either. Handy when you want to cover all angles with a wrap that will hide the worst post-St Patty's hangover.

I am never tough on my gear. But should an accident occur, the temples on these "surgical grade stainless steel works of art" are made to set right back into place. Try that with a Porsche on the 401. Ain't gonna happen.

Heck, if Woody Harrelson can wear Ic Berlins in an amusement park full of zombies then I can definitely feel secure that these German products of optical liberation will serve me well in the GTA.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

Nope.

My Ic Berlin Sean does all the talkin' for me.

You too can Ic Berlin your face. Check in at all 3 Spectacle locations for most models and colours.

Top Secret Shipment at Spectacle

A big box of wonderfulness mysteriously showed up at Spectacle's flag ship West Queen West location this week.

What is inside is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma to all of us in the company.

New styles from one of Jag's secret buying trips? A Tasmanian Devil? A seasons worth of sunnies the likes of which Toronto has never seen? The real contents of Capone's vault?

Kira and Al tried to peak in the box like little kiddies on Christmas day, but to no avail.

Only time will tell what's up with the mystery box, one thing is for sure though, Spectacle Loves You.

The Moscot Legacy, Alive and Well at Spectacle Uptown!

There are so few things in this world that are a sure thing... Fortunately for our clients, when you try on a pair of frames that have the history and time-tested workmanship of a Moscot Original behind them, you know you've got something that won't let you down.

The legendary Lemtosh by Moscot sure looks great on Johnny, as sure as there'll be a Pirates of the Caribean 5!

Right now at Spectacle Lawrence Park, you can get your hands on some eyewear and sunnies by Moscot. The little eyewear company that could, the story of Moscot's humble beginnings in 1915 New York is one of our favourite bedtime stories. Designer Hyman Moscot hand made his frames and sold them from his cart in Times Square and now, five generations later the New York tradition is stronger than ever!
